You start each mission with a sniper rifle, a pistol, a submachine gun, and a selection of heavy weapons, traps, grenades, and explosives. You edit the kit before deployment.
Drop into the Italian peninsula. Climb ruins. Hang from ledges. Dodge patrols. Run through collapsing villas.
Find the perch. Control your breathing. Line up a long-range shot through the scope. The kill camera follows the round.
Between the main objectives, secret side missions and sniper challenges pull you off the path. Collectible items hide in the corners of each map.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain shares the third-person stealth loop and the open-ended approach to bases. It leans harder on gadgets and fulton extractions. Sniper Elite 4 keeps the focus on the rifle. The maps feel larger, more horizontal, with fewer menus between you and the next shot.
Hitman rewards patience and costume changes. Sniper Elite 4 rewards distance. You stay outside the compound. The kill is the puzzle, not the disguise.
Both games offer sandbox freedom. Sniper Elite 4 narrows it to a specific, quieter pleasure: one round, one report, one body.
Lung Reset
Empty lung shots. Hold the breath button a beat longer than instinct says. The crosshair settles further. Works best from prone.
Sound masking. Generators and passing aircraft cover your muzzle report. Tag them early, then wait for the noise. The game never explains this outright.
Tag-and-track. Binoculars lock enemy outlines. A tagged soldier stays marked even behind walls. Use it before entering any village.
Rocks and bottles. They pull one guard at a time into tall grass. Quieter than a suppressed pistol.
The trip mine doubles as a door chime. Place it inside a doorway. When it triggers, you already have sight lines on the only entrance.
Few players open the loadout screen between objectives. Swapping scopes, ammo types, or traps per checkpoint changes the pace of a long mission.
