Three games. One launcher. No filler.
Patient grinders
- You replay a level ten times to learn its bones
- You enjoy a plan coming together in silence
- You want a long-term sandbox, not a weekend sprint
Who should skip
If you crave constant forward momentum or direct combat, this will feel like wading through honey. The game asks you to stop, watch, and wait. Freelancer mode removes the safety net entirely—failure costs gear. That tension is the point, but it isn't for everyone.
Launcher freeze
The launcher sometimes stalls on first launch. Give it a minute. If the window stays blank, quit and reopen—the shader cache builds once, then stays quiet.
Controller not responding in menus. This was a known gap before 3.280.0. Now the launcher and PC Options menu pick up external controllers in Steam Deck and Steam Big Picture Mode. On Mac, wired and Bluetooth controllers work after a quick restart of the app.
Freelancer mode missing gear after a crash. Progress saves at safehouse exits, not mid-mission. Finish a mission cleanly before stepping away.
Silent arrivals
Season of the Herbalist landed quietly. New targets, new tools, fresh escalation threads woven into existing locations. No separate download. The content simply appears in the destinations menu after the update.
Steam VR gets a dedicated launch option. Small thing, but it means less fiddling with launch arguments if you play in a headset. External controller support now reaches the launcher itself—useful if you navigate from a couch.
Learn Paris
Start with the campaign tutorial. It teaches body hiding, disguise flow, and sound masking without punishing mistakes. Two hours here saves frustration later.
Play one location until you know the back corridors. Paris is a good first sandbox. After three runs you'll spot routes you missed entirely on the first pass.
Leave Freelancer mode for week two. It assumes you know item placement and guard rotations. Without that muscle memory, you'll lose gear needlessly.
Disable the mission story tracker if guidance feels overbearing. The game sharpens when you read the room instead of following a marker.
