You zoom out over a humming grid. Belts carry blue half-circles toward a painter, which dyes them red, then merges them with white squares. The result slides onto a waiting train without a single click from you.

This is shapez 2. It strips factory games down to geometry and flow. No enemies. No resource shortages. Just extraction, cutting, painting, and assembly across stacked 3D levels.

Update 1.2 moved the game to Unity 6. On macOS, the difference is a quieter frame rate and fewer stutters when factories grow dense. The blueprint library lets you save and share layouts; the update also lets older blueprints migrate forward without breaking.

Belt speed first

Open the research tree and prioritize belt speed early. Faster belts untangle bottlenecks before they start.

Switch the undo depth to maximum. Fifty steps gives you room to experiment — tear down a quadrant, watch it fail, then restore it fully. The game holds its own counsel; it won't warn you before you delete half a factory.

Disable the build animation in the accessibility options. The fade-in effect is charming once, but it drags when you paste dense blueprints.

Nearby alternatives

Factorio runs deeper and darker. It adds enemies, pollution, and resource depletion — pressures shapez 2 deliberately removes. Where Factorio asks you to defend a sprawling base, shapez 2 asks only that you solve the next shape. The zoomed-out calm is the point.

Beltmatic works with numbers rather than geometry. You route digits through arithmetic nodes to reach a target value. It shares the minimal-friction loop — no timers, no failure — but misses the spatial layering that 3D factories give shapez 2. Stacking belts vertically changes how you think about routing; Beltmatic stays flat.

Liquids speed up stubborn lines. Space trains stitch distant stations together. It all plays from a calm top-down view that rewards patience over speed.
