Sid Meier's Civilization VI is a turn-based strategy game about guiding a people from a single settler to a world-spanning empire.
Meet the requirements
Plan for a 64-bit Mac with 6 GB of RAM, a 1 GB GPU, and 15 GB of available space. macOS 11.7.10 or later, Intel or Apple Silicon.
Expect turn-based pace
Performance holds steady on most modern Macs. Late-game turns with many cities and units will slow things down — plan for longer waits as the map fills.
Mind the leaders
After the first game, turn on quick movement and quick combat in the options. Late-game turns tighten by a minute or more. Also set city production to queue mode — fewer interruptions between turns.
Map pins help. Drop a pin on a future district site the moment you spot it. Planning early keeps adjacency bonuses high and regrets low.
Save your game setup as a configuration. Rerolling for a decent start takes two clicks instead of ten.
macOS notifications stay silent during a session. Civilization VI grabs the whole screen and holds it. Use a three-finger swipe between Spaces if you need to check something mid-turn; the game pauses cleanly in the background.
Spotify runs fine alongside it. Mute the in-game music and let your own playlist carry the centuries.
Opponents act on historical preferences. A 2023 update sharpened leader abilities from the Leader Pass, so their personalities land with more weight.
