The draw here isn't just the shooting. Keanu Reeves as Johnny Silverhand and Idris Elba as Solomon Reed give the story weight, but the real hook is staring at a skill tree and seeing ten paths at once. You enjoy this if you treat a character sheet like a puzzle.
Who walks away
This is not a tight, frictionless action game. It's a dense, talk-heavy role-playing game that wants you to read, wait, and live in its tone for a hundred hours. If you need a game to respect your time above all else, or if open-world fatigue sets in fast, Night City will feel like a burden, not an escape.
A film editor I know plays nothing but Cyberpunk 2077. She doesn’t chase the main story. She walks. She watches the light change across Kabuki rooftops at 4 a.m., then calls her vehicle and listens to the radio while AutoDrive traces a route across the city. Patch 2.31 made that route better: the car no longer stops at every light, and it finally overtakes a stalled van instead of sitting behind it for three blocks.
Shards reveal
Don’t optimize yet. Spend your first two sessions ignoring the map markers and walking from Watson to the Glen on foot. Listen to conversations. Read the shards you pick up. The game tips its hand slowly.
After that, pick one weapon type and one operating system. Commit to them for ten hours. Respeccing comes later. A scattered V is a dead V.
Use the wardrobe in your apartment early. Looking like a disaster is part of the early game, but finding your look locks you into the world faster than any perk does.
