One outbreak. Dozens of zombie variants. A skill deck you can rebuild mid-combat.

Melee crafters

  • You want weapon crafting and quick tactical switches, not just a trigger finger
  • You prefer third-person melee chaos over slow-paced survival horror
  • You need a native Apple Silicon build that just works on Sequoia

Who it won't

Bel-Air wakeup

You wake up in Bel-Air. The morning light is harsh and wrong. A screamer shrieks from somewhere near the old pool house. You swap to a blunt weapon — fast, quiet — and check the skill deck.

Three cards change. You trade block for dodge. You add a damage buff against burning enemies.

You find a workbench near the guest house. Scrap metal, batteries, a can of gasoline. You mod a baseball bat to shock and burn. The weapon wheel lets you tap between that bat, a pistol, and a curve blade without opening a menu.

The screamer is in the garden. You dodge its lunge, spark it with the bat, and finish it before it calls a horde. The body drops. Quiet returns.

You check the map. You head east toward the pier, past a wrecked ambulance and a pool of caustic waste. A crusher blocks the gate. You switch loadout again — firearms this time, plus a ground-pound skill. It takes two minutes and every round you have.

That's the loop. Walk, scout, rebuild your deck, craft, fight, move on. No menus stop the action. The cards change how you play every few minutes.

Wheel fix

The current build is 1.0.1 [MAS] fix. No published patch notes came with it. In daily play, the fix smoothed out two things: the weapon wheel no longer sticks when switching during a dodge, and the frame pacing on M1 holds steadier in the SoLA festival grounds.

Before this build, players on Sequoia sometimes hit a three-second freeze when the Haus expansion's first cutscene triggered. That's gone now. You notice it only if you had the older version.

Crusher fail

Locking one loadout for a whole zone. New players often pick a fire axe and a rifle and never touch the skill deck again. Zombie types change block by block. A deck that melts shamblers fails against a crusher. Swap cards between fights — the game expects it.

Ignoring curveballs. These throwable items look like comic relief. They aren't. Meat bait pulls a crowd away from a key door. Electric stars stun mutators long enough to break their arms. Use them early.

Hoarding materials. Workbench parts are everywhere. If you're not modding weapons because you're saving scrap, you're making fights harder than they need to be.

Playing without co-op when stuck. The Mac build has its own matchmaking. If a section drags, drop in with another player. The pacing improves instantly.

Voice acting is English-only, which grates if you expect full localization. The tone is loud and pulpy — skip it if you want quiet dread.
