A trucking game stripped back to its core: you, a map of continental Europe, and a delivery deadline.

Take a job

Pick a cargo from the list. The game sets your route and your pay. No negotiation, just a destination.

Drive the route

The distance ticks down on the satnav. Traffic moves around you; tight corners demand wide turns. Rest stops punctuate the highway monotony.

Park the rig

Backing a trailer into a marked bay asks for patience. The cab view gives you nothing extra.

Shortest route lesson

Start with the shortest routes. Düsseldorf to Dortmund teaches the truck's turning circle without punishing mistakes across three countries.

Disable the speed limiter in settings once. Not to race — to feel how the chassis reacts above 90 km/h. Then turn it back on for the bonus payout.

Save before every parking attempt. The game autosaves at depots, but not mid-yard.

Twelve-tonne braking

The biggest mistake: treating the trailer like a car. Braking late with twelve tonnes behind you ends in a jackknife. Start slowing at twice the distance you think you need.

New players often ignore the rest stops. Fatigue warnings stack. Miss three and the screen blacks out mid-corner.

Also wrong: rushing the class system. Some cargo unlocks only after you grind the early ranks. Take the short hauls seriously.

Next to other sims

Next to its own sequel, this first Euro Truck Simulator is smaller. Fewer cities, a simpler map, no company management layer. It feels more like a focused delivery loop than a business sim — and that's the point.

Compared to 18 Wheels of Steel, the roads here are tighter and the trucks sit lower. The physics ask for more precise cornering. You notice it on the mountain switchbacks south of Vienna.

Against contemporary indie trucking games on Mac, it lacks mod support and cabin customization. But its map, even at seventeen cities, has a cohesion the early indie maps miss. The road network between Berlin and Prague still makes sense after a dozen runs.

A simple loop of work. You repeat it through seventeen cities, moving up through driver classes at your own pace.

Questions

Does this game include trucks other than tractor units?

No. Version 1.4.4 limits you to tractor units. You will not find vans or rigid trucks in the garage.

How does the driver class system work?

You start as a novice. Finishing deliveries earns experience that moves you through the classes, unlocking more demanding and better-paying cargo runs.
