Think of a spreadsheet you can ride into battle. You manage troop wages, food supplies, and trade routes on a map, then the numbers turn into soldiers when you charge a hilltop.

Loop of Recruitment

  • Ride across a map visiting villages to recruit farmers and mercenaries.
  • Fight in directional melee — block, feint, and swing from horseback.
  • Loot the dead for better armor, then sell surplus gear in town markets.
  • Persuade rival lords to defect to your faction with promises of land.
  • Lead sieges where ladders hit stone walls and archers trade volleys.

After the battle

A shield catches arrows even hanging at your side as you ride. You pick up ammunition from fallen archers mid-fight. Grant a companion a fief and they become a vassal who shows up with their own troops later. The campaign doesn't push you toward a plot; you choose whom to serve and when to break away and found a kingdom yourself.

Install the game and spend the first hour losing. That is the right way. Pick a few recruits in a border village, ride toward a band of looters, and miss every swing from horseback while they pelt you with stones. The combat timing clicks faster after a handful of defeats than after reading any guide.

Remap the block and attack directions to mouse movement early. The default auto-block feels safe but teaches habits that crumble in multiplayer. Switch to manual blocking in the options menu before muscle memory sets in; the first duels will bruise, but the control sticks forever.

Hold the F1 key during a fight to bring up a small command panel above your troops. Most new players shout orders into the void for weeks without knowing it exists.

In the campaign map, hold Control and press Space to speed time without stopping at every village. It cuts the early grind of traveling between markets to a quiet fast-forward, and the game never mentions it.
