Parallel chains start with one click. Drop a crossover or a splitter into the graph and one chain becomes three or four, each with its own effects.
Chain saving
PatchWork goes where one plug-in would. One insert holds a whole vocal chain — gate, EQ, two compressors — saved as a preset and bypassed as a group.

Format scanning
Does it scan all plug-in formats at once. Yes — VST, VST3, Audio Unit, and AUv3 appear in the same browser. The scanner runs once and you can trigger a rescan from preferences whenever you add something new.
Will it load older 32-bit plug-ins. No. The current build is 64-bit only and macOS 10.9 and later does not bridge legacy formats inside PatchWork.
Can you run it outside a DAW. The standalone application handles that. It grabs the system audio device and hosts chains for live keyboard rigs or practice sessions without a session open.
Some users look for a bluecat patchwork crack mac setup when testing routing ideas before a session. The plug-in loads the same graph in any host, so a chain built in standalone opens identically inside Logic or Ableton later.
Parallel rain
A sound designer opens a field recording of rain on a metal roof. Inside PatchWork she places a gate first, then splits the signal three ways. One band gets pitch shifting down an octave. Another gets a ring modulator and a short reverb. The third stays dry. A macro knob on the built-in gain plug-in crossfades the wet bands in and out while she records the result with the 16-channel recorder added in 2.75.
She saves the chain. Drags the preset file onto a different session the next day and it rebuilds the routing, the splits, the recorder assignment — everything except the third-party plug-ins she had not yet installed on that machine. PatchWork flags the missing ones by name and keeps the graph intact.
Internal recorder
Version 2.75 brought the built-in recorder. You arm up to 16 channels directly from the plug-in window and capture what passes through any point in the graph. No need to route back into the DAW just to print a parallel chain.
The same update added chain-level copy and paste. Select a chain of five plug-ins, copy it, drop it into another instance. Save it to disk and reload it for a different project. MIDI control expanded too — individual plug-in bypass and window open or close became assignable, alongside more continuous parameter types.
VST3 editor loading on macOS still waits until you open the interface. The plug-in stays light on CPU until you click to tweak, which keeps large sessions responsive during playback.
On a drum bus the same instance becomes a multiband processor. A few splits, a different compressor per band, and kick and snare stop fighting.
