bx_mastering studio is the standalone mastering app that succeeds mastering.studio, built from the Style Creator engine.
Algorithm
The processing pulls from analysis of notable masters. It adapts that intelligence—compression, EQ, limiting—to your track without asking you to route through a DAW. The result is a clear, streaming-ready file.
Standalone
No plug-in host required. That matters if you work in GarageBand or another editor that stops short of full mastering chains. Drag in a stereo mix, let the automated processes respond, and print a finished master.
Workflow: podcast episode
You recorded a thirty-minute conversation. The raw stereo file sits on your desktop—peaks at –6 dB, a little muddy around 200 Hz.
Open bx_mastering studio. Drag the file into the window. The app analyzes and applies a starting style.
Browse the style list. Select Podcast Broadcast. It tightens the low-mids and adds gentle limiting. The waveform gains body without becoming harsh.
Listen on small speakers. The voice stays present. No sibilance spikes. Export. One file, ready for the host.
No DAW session to recall. No third-party chain to rebuild next week. The app remembers the last style you picked. Next episode takes thirty seconds.
Some users pair this with a light noise-reduction pass elsewhere. But for level, tone and loudness, bx_mastering studio does the job alone.
Replace your limiter
Does it replace my limiter? Yes. The internal chain handles loudness and true-peak limiting. You do not need a separate brickwall plug-in for streaming targets.
Will it open my old mastering.studio sessions? No. The engine moved forward. But the Style Creator logic is the same family. You rebuild a style in seconds.
Does it need online access? No. The analysis runs locally. You can work offline after installation.
Trust your ears
One common error: picking a style by name without listening. A style called Club might add low-end weight that flatters headphones but clouds phone speakers. Always check on two playback systems before you export.
Another: feeding the app a mix with a limiter already on the master bus. bx_mastering studio expects an unmastered stereo file. If your mix is already crushed, the algorithm has no room to work. Leave headroom.
A third: skipping the output format check. The app defaults to a streaming-friendly spec. That is fine for most. But if you need a specific sample rate or bit depth, set it before you print. Do not assume.
