It runs on any Mac with an Apple M1 chip and macOS 12.0 or later. The board appears clean and flat, a map of cities waiting for connections.
You draw train cards. You match colors. You place small plastic cars on a route between two cities and collect the points. A mountain tunnel makes you risk an extra card from the deck. You hold your breath. Most turns are quiet.
Incomplete routes hurt you at the end. They deduct points. Every station left unbuilt could have been a few more points on the pile. You watch the lines grow across the map and wonder if someone else needs the same gray track you do.
The Express bonus goes to the longest unbroken line. Sometimes you build it without meaning to, a thin strand of cars stretching from one edge to the other. The music plays underneath it all, steady and unobtrusive.
Hoarding routes
New players hold too many route cards. Three long routes look tempting during setup, but you must keep at least two and every incomplete one subtracts points later. Start with two. Add a third only when your first connections are solid.
Ignoring the discard pile is another quiet error. Opponents cannot see which route cards you return to the box, so throwing away an ambitious cross-map route early costs you nothing and signals nothing. Beginners treat every card as a commitment.
Stations get hoarded. An unused station scores four points at the end — often fewer than the route it could have salvaged when someone blocked a critical city pair. Place one early if a narrow corridor looks contested. Let the others wait, but not forever.
Notes companion
The game sits well alongside a notes app or a voice call. You can keep a running tally of discarded colors in a plain text file if you enjoy the memory work; the interface does not track that for you.
macOS Handoff does not apply, but the same build runs on iPad and iPhone. A game started on the couch continues at the desk. The experience feels identical across devices, right down to the card animations.
For anyone searching ticket to ride macos free, the disk image installs cleanly by dragging a single icon into Applications. No extras, no helper tools. It coexists with other board game ports without fighting for screen space or menu bar attention.
