CUBE is a virtual instrument built around a 3D sound-morphing engine.
Custom sample path
It arrives as AU, VST3, and AAX. M1 and M2 chips are recommended. The plugin installer drops factory presets and plugin files into their default locations. Samples you direct to a custom folder of your choosing.
Sound
Eight layers move inside a cube. Each layer holds its own controls. You can load custom audio files into any slot. The result shifts between source material, sample and grain, in a single motion. It suits electronic music, hip-hop, pop, and any patch that benefits from genre ambiguity.
Texture-first producers
Producers who build from texture rather than theory get the most mileage here. The morphing cube rewards dragging a finger across a trackpad — small movements yield large timbral shifts. Sound designers working to picture will find the motion system useful for evolving drones and beds. Hip-hop beatmakers can load a handful of contrasting samples and find dead zones between them that no static preset library would offer.
If your process leans on mouse gestures and real-time automation rather than step-sequenced precision, CUBE aligns with that. Composers in a hurry benefit too: the 500-plus presets are starting points you can crack open and reshape immediately.
Overlooked details
The low-power mode is easy to skip during install. It lives in the settings panel and drops CPU load noticeably on older Intel machines when you are stacking instances. Toggle it before you decide the plugin is too hungry for your session.
Right-click any layer slot to copy its settings to another layer. This is faster than dialing in matching values by hand when you want two sources to start from the same place and then diverge. The built-in effects chain — distortion, reverb, delay — can be reordered by dragging, a small touch that changes the tail end of a patch without leaving the window.
Custom sample loading supports drag-and-drop from the Finder. You are not limited to the bundled library of over 100 instruments and 3,000 samples. Dropping a field recording into a corner of the cube often produces something the preset browser would not predict.
The automatic motion systems are worth mapping to a single macro knob if your controller supports it. One turn can pull a static pad into something that breathes across eight layers at once.
