macOS moves deleted files to the Trash. It waits for you to empty it.

That does not touch the service files left behind in your Library. A hundred apps leave a hundred folders of preferences you never see again.

Find

Drop an app onto AppZapper. It lists every related file it can find—caches, logs, plists—before anything is removed.

Decide

Uncheck what you want to keep. The grid browser, added in version 2, sorts by name or last-used date so you see what has been idle for years.

Clean out a suite

Say you are done with a large creative tool and its helper apps. Plug‑ins, font managers, and support utilities all scatter files across ~/Library.

Open the grid view. Sort by name. Select the main app first, then each helper. Zap one at a time, reviewing the file list between zaps. The grid stays open so you work down the row without dragging anything. Half a minute for a full suite.

Export the file list before zapping if you want a record of what went where. The export lands on your desktop as a plain text list you can stash or ignore.

Settings to adjust

  • Switch the default view to grid. List view is precise, but grid shows more apps at once and makes stale software obvious.
  • Turn off the confirmation sound. The zap is fast enough without a chime.
  • Check the Sparkle update preference. Version 1.6 added in‑app updates; leave it on so you catch fixes without visiting a site.

With the Mac around it

AppZapper does not replace Finder or the Trash. It fills the gap between dragging an app out of Applications and the files that stay behind.

Pair it with Spotlight. Search an app name after zapping and there should be nothing left. If Spotlight still finds a plist, you missed a file and can drag the app back onto the zap window to catch it.

ZapGenie, from version 1.5, sorts by last‑used date. Run it before a system update. Sort descending by date and the apps you haven’t opened in eighteen months sit at the top. Those are the ones to zap first.

When you use an app zapper mac keeps no secret index of. There is no daemon, no background process. It runs when you open it and quits when you close it. That keeps the tool out of your way and out of your memory.

Some people hunt for an AppZapper serial or an AppZapper torrent. The app itself is a single window with no activation dialog. The TNT build is ready after the Gatekeeper step. No key, no call-home.

If you need an appzapper full mac install that respects older hardware, version 2 runs on Intel Macs back to OS X 10.9. That covers machines still in use in studios and schools where the OS stays frozen for compatibility.

One click sends the app and its traces to the Trash. You still empty the Trash yourself. Nothing is irreversible until you do.

Questions

Can I see which files AppZapper will delete?

Yes. The app shows a full list of related files for each application before you confirm deletion.

Does it work on older Macs?

It runs on OS X 10.9 and later, on any 64-bit Intel Mac.
