A work inbox, a shared calendar and a personal Gmail account usually live in separate tabs. Outlook puts them in one window.
Two questions come first. Does it replace Apple Mail and Calendar? It can. Will it take non-Microsoft accounts? Gmail, Yahoo, POP and IMAP all work.
Version 16.93 is part of Office LTSC Standard for Mac 2024. It runs on macOS 13 or later, Apple silicon and 64-bit Intel.
Unified inbox
Apple Mail and Calendar are fine for a personal Mac. Outlook changes the rhythm: one window, one search field, one list of flagged items. The built-in apps stay separate by design. Outlook assumes you want them together.
Spark and Airmail are leaner on email. They do less with scheduling. Outlook carries the full calendar logic—meeting invites, shared calendars, busy times—without a second app. That matters for work accounts.
Thunderbird is the quiet alternative. It reads almost any mailbox and asks for nothing. But it feels like a toolbox. Outlook feels like a desk: heavier, more finished, more Microsoft-shaped.
Share fix
The 16.93 series arrived with two follow-up fixes in January 2025. Microsoft's notes point to one everyday annoyance: sharing documents and other content from Word or Excel to Outlook. That path is smoother now.
Nothing here rewrites the interface. The changes are the kind you notice by absence—a stuck attachment, a dead share button. For people who move files between Office apps and email all day, that absence is the point.
Focus-aware accounts
- Turn on Profiles. This macOS integration keeps Focus modes aware of which account is active. Work mail can go quiet after hours.
- Set your default calendar. New events go there without thinking.
- Check the reading pane position. Right, bottom, or hidden changes the whole feel.
- Disable notifications per account. A personal Gmail feed does not need the same urgency as a work inbox.
After that, the search scope setting is worth one visit. Searching all mailboxes is slow; searching the current one is usually enough.
For several accounts and one calendar, it is the simpler setup.
